Blackton and Edison - 1896 - 1906

In 1996, a newspaper cartoonist called James Stuart Blackton met up with inventor Thomas Edison who at the time was experimenting with moving images. In the interview, Blackton did some remarkable quick sketches of Edison, Edison was so impressed by the speed and skill of Blackton that he asked if he would like to work with him on a series of drawings which would later be photographed by Edison. In 1906 the pair officially released 'Humorous phases of funny faces', which can be seen in the video below. 

People have been known to find one part of these "3000 drawings" to be the most comical. When the man blows his smoke into the ladys face, obsuring her, people rolled up in fits of laughter making it an instant hit amongst the audience.
