So today I had a crit in which I must say gave me a kick up the arse. I am really ashamed with myself and I am finding work, especially my time managment really hard. In the next project I will! do myself proud. I hope their is still faith in people about what I can produce. I will use my time wisely, end this project now and start a complete fresh. I will take this learning curve and put it into good use, which will result in a successfull project in unit 3. Sorry again. Critism is good lol. I will do better. Chapter closed.

Final Maya
OMG! kind of stupid really but i left the Maya a little bit later than i should have. this last week has been mad. One of my models got slightly disrupted but I recovered. Overall though I am quite pleased with the final result. If I had not of left it a bit too long though I would not have struggled to finish. The only problem I had was when doing the UV mapping. some became very strange looking but nothing a few sowing tricks could not fix. Next project though its time to step my game up. I am definatley not going through hell this project to finish twenty plus videos in one bulk over the space of a week.Thankfully Alan's videos helped massively! so thanks Alan, look forward to next project.
So this was just a tester using my perspcetive cam right before I did a final render on the street.
This is the final street render which I have done just in time. I need good time management in future :)
Just one more shot which points the lighting in a different direction due to me experimenting with the sunlight.
If I look like a zombie on Monday you will know why.
I wanted this street to look alot more like a London back road/street. Hence the width of the roads. One way streets for important people.

More reference images for the silver City
Even though I have already shown my concept sketches for the silver city, I will show some more reference images I had found which I think allowed me to have an idea of creating this concept piece.
Something I have learned during this project is that I am rubbish at trying to paint a sky. I have however noticed a difference in the way I can use a tablet. I find myself becoming more in touch with the tablet as I have had more practice. Anyway, the reason I picked this image for my post was because of the amazing, bright sky. I always think that a good sunset needs a dark blue and a golden yellow to create realistic looking sunset.
I really love this image above. it reminds me of an old Aztec City which is in ruin. The tree which is in the foreground adds such a great depth of perspective, something which I am only just begining to learn.
This image has been chossen for one simple reason only and one alone, night life in the city. This image gives me a good idea of how a city may look at night or during the day.
This final image plays a small part in my final concept for the Silver City. What i tried to do was imagine what this piece of land would look like if it was above the water. It reminds me of an inactive volcano.

Silver City so far
OK these are the stages so far in the Silver City concept piece that I am doing from the book.
Stage Five
Stage Six
Stage Seven
Stage One
During the production stages of this concept, I firstly created a background layer with a sun and a few clouds. Then I created a secoond layer which I used to create a silvery grey base for my city.
Stage Two
After the city base had been created, I added a second and third mountain which I was going to use to give the image more depth.
Stage Three
In stages three and four I added the city which was made up of basic shapes I had made using the lasso tool. After I had my basic shapes, I began to add minor detail such as grass and other natural foliage.
Stage Four
Stage Five
In stage five I began to pull all of the individual pieces of the concept into a fully completed version. In this stage I added a bridge which I was using to show perspecive of the image.
Stage Six
In stages six and seven I began to mess around with the image and try out new techniques which would work well within the concept.
Stage Seven
These are only some of the stages, the final concept will be revealed at tomorrows Crit.
Edward Scissor Hands
Edward Scissor Hands is a beautiful story about a man who has been artificially made by a mad scientist in a large gothic mansion which sits dominantley at the top of a perfect little suburban town. Edward who is played by Johnny Depp, is approached by a local avon lady and welcomed back into their home were he finds himself falling in the love with the families daughter Kim who is played by Winona Ryder. At first the family find it difficult to adapt to Edward living with them but eventually he becomes accepted as one of the family and a revered member of the neighborhood. Edward begins to find great use for his scissorhands, he uses them for landscape gardening and eventually becomes a very sort after hair dresser. For anyone reading this post, I do not want to spoil the film if you have not seen it before, so I will leave the plot at that.
What I really liked about this film was the way in which it made me feel. I found that this film, unlike some I have seen recently had given me alot of different emotions. I remember when watching this film that I became very aggressive every time the character Jim approached and spoke to Edward. His charcter was very jealous, obsessive and also very devious. The film also made me laugh in places, and at some points it also made me feel pretty low. One of the things that this film does well is the way that they make a bad situation commical. When Edward is trying to dress himself at the begining of the film you feel very sorry for him because it must be impossible to lead a normal life without having any hands. However when he trys on the clothes for the first time, he accidently cuts through the straps which leave the clothes in a heap on the floor. Even though this is sad and frustrating, it is one of those rare occasions which can put a smile on your face in a sad situation.
The image above has been taken from the movie. The scars which cover his face are a result of him being very nervous around other people.
One of the main focus points about this movie is the set design. It is very perculiar that such a dark, gothic mansion sits above a very pastel coloured town.
Prelim Sketches
I have been kind of an idiot and im not going to deny it. I should have posted all of the stuff up ages ago but like a fool i left it to last minute. This is why my blog is in a bit of a shambles. All my work is being scanned at this very second for you eyes to see. wish me luck im on schedule lol. Just ignore the empty posts, I am re-organizing and taking things off and putting them back on so don't panic, I know i'm not :)
Below are my draft designs which I did within my sketchbook. These were done in pencil and then overlayed in different shades of grey in order for me to show depth.

Desert Of Colors so far
Below are four of the stages I have been through to try and develop a final concept piece for the desert of colors. This concept is proving to be by far the most difficult one of all three of my concepts. I will carry on with the concept and hopefully have a successful final concept for the crit tomorrow morning, lucky for me im right at the end which gives me a chance to calm my nerves :)
Stage one
Stage 2
Stage 3
Stage 4
.
These are only the first of my stages into completing the final concept. even though I didn't like this p0art of the book, like Phil said, what a client wants, a client gets, and i totally respect that. So I have no problems with it, I just hope it turns out OK.
Alien
Well i have to admit I was really quite looking foward to todays film "Alien" becuase as I'm ashamed to say, I have never seen it before. In previous years I have only caught a glimpse of the Alien franchise, watching minimal pieces from the films sequels. I must say this masterpiece movie was much worth the wait.
Before I tell you what I thought of it, I would like to give a short synopsis about what the movie is about.
In my opinion, I think that this film out of the ones we have watched during this project has by far the best set and concept design. Not because of its genre which is more appealing to me, but of its sheer briliant style and layout. One of the many scenes I really like during this film was when the ship landed on the
I was looking at a site called "Rotten Tomatos" to find and compare two peoples reviews of the film Alien, one from when it was released in the early 70's and someone who has seen in the last few years. One of the main things we discussed was if Alien could be released in the cinema today, is it contempory.

Epic!
So if you dont know I am a very big gears of war fan. I was having a look around on the internet and at some concept books I have at home which was when I stumbled across some amazing environmental concept art from the locust colonies under the world of Sera. Within these concepts are countless amounts of vital information which makes these pieces of work such great concepts.
One of the most important artists working on gears of war 2 was a man called Josh Jay. Josh Jay is an environmental concept artists whose job is to design and create level designs for Epics Gears of war series. Below are some concepts he had done for the game Gears of war.
This next image is a piece of concept art which represents the Locust queens throne beneath the city of Sera.

More reference for Silver City
I have been meaning to put these posts up for some time now, I am finally getting the chance to put up more references which I will be using to inspire the structure of the Silver City. I had been thinking, other than looking at the waterworld sets, what source of imagery could I use to help me get an idea of a structure that sat within the sea in the middle of knowhere. After playing a bit of the new Call of Duty I came across a level which took place on an oil rig out at sea. I thought straight away that this was a perfect way to look at structures among the sea which could help with designing my concept of the Silver City.

Desert of colours reference imagery
The images below are more reference images for my concept, the desert of colours. I have selected the images below because I really like the layout of the desert and the shapes of the dunes. I have found myself needing to look at these images to help inspire me to create this desert of colours.

Reference images for Silver City
For my Silver City concept I have decided To have a city which is floating above a lake of corrosive violet water. I have been looking at reference pictures from the film Waterworld because it shows towns and cities on top of the water in the middle of the ocean. Below are a few images from the film.
This last image is a piece of concept art which I found whilst searching for images to reference waterworld. I really like this image because it represents good perspective. I also like the the overall color and feel of the image.
I have been looking at some of the set from the film, waterworld. I really liked this film as a child, looking back at the sets I think it really will give me a good inspiration and demonstration for a city upon water.
The image above and below are more references to waterworld that I am using for inspiration.
