Annegret Soltau

This could be one of the most srangest artists I have come across on this project. Annegret Soltau's art style is very surreal but at the same extremely fascinating at the same time. The photomontages that she creates are insane. It seems such a simple technique but it has such a powerfull effect on the viewer. Take the images below for instance.

When using this technique, Annegret would take photographs, rip them into pieces and then sow them back together making a composite of the images. Who would have thought of that. I really love the fact that she not only uses this style but uses it so well and to a degree of an actuall meaning.

Only through researching her it became clear to me that we had more in common than I first thought. Her project "Self" was to "Symbolize the times of search for female identity". Perfect, what an artist to fall upon.

What the hell! Im telling you she is crazy but amazing. what a brilliant but strange composition of images. To me this represents child birth, but her child birth. If only I could do something like this. Im sure if people did'nt understand this image then they would be repulsed by it. I really like it because my perception of it is probably much different to someone elses.

The image below is one I first saw in a book from the library. This was the first image that attracted me to this artist. I loved the fact it was sown and also the way it represented her face.
