Human Like Robotics

So following on from the Uncanny lecture we had the other day I had a look back at my notes and decided to look a little deeper into the similarities between A.I and humans.

Johnny Five, the main character from the 1986 movie 'Short Circuit'. A Robitics unit which is accidently electrocuted which results in the robot becoming intelligant, He gains self-awareness, consciousness, and a fear of what will become of him if he is taken back to the factory were he was made. When we look at an image of this robot we look at it as being 'cute'. We dont take into account that the robots attributes could cause a great deal of trouble. This has a huge amount to do with the way the robot looks.

However, when a robot becomes more life like we become more aware of its presence. A great example of this is the 2004 Sci Fi movie, 'I Robot'. Sonny, who as an amazing piece of A.I proves that he is able to break the laws of conduct which have been put into place to make sure robots abide by the human laws. Can you trust a robot so likelike.

It is just through the looks of the robot that we become very cautious. Something which is not alive but comes across us as looking alive is creepy. The robots likeness resembles a human by its facial features and this is why we become this way.

Running out of time because I have a lecture soon. I just thought I would add this video up because it represents one of the creepiest things in comparison to humans and robots I have ever seen. I will revisit this post, just watch the video on the likeness of the face.
