Barbed Wire - Reference

So I have been looking at different imagery for barbed wire which I will use during my final animation. the images below I found of great help. Each of them were very usefull references, especially with the style in which they were drawn by the artist.

WW1 Trench Signs

Whilst at the Imperial War museum in London I went and did some research in the Trench warefare part of the museum.
This post shows a selection of images which I captured using my camera which shows a different selection of signs from the trenches which had all sorts of different information on for the soldiers, such as, directions and warnings.

More Concepts

In this post are a couple of concepts which I did using a graphics tablet. In this project I wanted to focus mainly on drawn concepts so that I could get the rough and jagged looking sketch which Otto Dixs' sketches had. However, as a test I put together a few anyway, mainly for my animatic and also practice.

The concept above is from my final shot. On the Battlefield, The Soldier lies dead with his most prized possession amongst his hand. This will be were a dissolving transition will take place in order for the animation to flow smoothly cutting from past to present.

The Last Concept is of the trench. However, in the final animation the trench will look and feel more miserable and it will represent more destruction throughout which will show how bad living was amongst the trenches.

Concept art and Design Sketchbook Work

Below are an array of sketches which I have used to design my final set for my animation which you will be seeing over the next few days of work.

The Concept in the image below was drawn by me to show an old and devastated Flanders fields with the graves in the background. These images were drawn at the earlier stages of development.

The concept above was an experiment I did to see whether I could use the different shades of gray colored pens to portray a messy and devastating environment. These ideas were given to me from different Otto Dix artworks. His style was very dirty, some of his works were more of a crazy combination of styles. This I think is why his work immediately got my attention. However I'm unsure as to whether I like this piece of work which portrays a trench.

The images above were also drawn at an early stage in my design development. This was when I was unsure of whether I needed a character for my animation. Also some of the sketches were for different props, which I will talk about when I get to the images below.

The images below and above were quick sketches to help me gather a more visual idea of what I will need aswell as an environment in the final animation.
